Photography On The Bruce Peninsula
Generally the photography is great all year. Each season offers something different. Below is a description of what we like to take in each season.
Spring
This is a time of renewal stating with the spring runoff. Rivers and Waterfalls are full of water. Good shots are in Owen Sound and Sauble Beach. Next come the flowers and birds. Orchids, Jack In The Pulpits and Trilliums are throughout the Bruce. Unique flowers can be found along the Lake Huron shore.
Summer
The Bruce Peninsula can be hot and humid which often means haze in long distant shots. We do like to take pictures of people, beaches, Bruce Trail, canoeing, escarpment and caves. Places we like to shoot on Lake Huron are Sauble Beach, along the water from Olihant and north to Tobermory. On Georgain Bay we like the lookouts around Wiarton, Cape Croker, Lion’s Head, Grotto and Tobermory. Also the Lighthouses at Cape Croker, Cabit Head, Southampton and Tobermory are worth a look.
Fall
This is a time for great sensory shots. The leaves on the Bruce Trail and Escarpment are spectacular. Cool days often have gorgeous blue skies for those famous Escarpment scenery shots. The caves can be seen well with fewer leaves. We also like to look for Escarpment lookouts.
Winter
We get snow … NO … we get a lot of snow.
This is a fun time of year. Lots of action shots of snowmobilers, skiers, ice climbers and more. Ice cliffs are at Wiarton and spectacular winter views are between Owen Sound and Wiarton. Often after a snowfall, a High Pressure will move in with clear skies. Go out early in the morning for shots of fresh snow and long shadows. There is a Classic Cross Country Ski Trail at Red Bay Lodge.
