Bruce Peninsula, Lake Huron and Georgian Bay Beaches
Bruce Peninsula Beaches
Some of the best beaches in Canada are located on the Bruce. Do you like soft sand and warm shallow water then try the Lake Huron side of the peninsula. Do you like soft sand or bolder beaches with cool water then the Georgian Bay side is for you?
Southampton Beach is large with soft sand on the south and gravel on the north end. This is a family and seniors beach. There is a boardwalk and a good view from shore of the lighthouse on the island.
Sauble Beach is our most famous beach. Thousands of people flood to Sauble during July and August. There is lots of room on the beach but the parking is not the best. The natives own the southern half of the beach. We do like what they have done. You can drive and park along their section. The beach has soft sand and the water is shallow with three sand bars.
Red Bay is also famous but not for it’s beach. The water is so shallow that babies can crawl in it. The water is very warm and is one of the first beaches to warm up. This beach is famous for sunsets, windsurfing and small boat sailing. There is a sailing club that has races most Saturdays in the summer.
Oliphant, Pike Bay, Singing Sands on Lake Huron are extremely shallow. They are a nice place to go for a walk out in the water for hundreds of feet.
Blacks Park is a nice beach south of Stokes Bay. You will not find it without a map. This is a nice sheltered soft sand beach.
Dorcus Bay has one of the nicest soft sand beaches on the Georgian Bay side of the peninsula. The beach is not large because the government let the cottage owners own to the water. The water here is almost warm.
Lion’s Head beach is very scenic but you will only see kids swimming.
Hope Bay beach is a large soft sand beach but we never see anyone in the water.
Wiarton and Owen Sound have a small sand beach but I would not send anyone there.
On the Georgian Bay side are many bolder beaches or stone wall beaches. The best one is at Big Bay. Yes the water is cold.
Georgian Bay is cold but on hot summer days we do see lots of kids jumping of the numerous government docks. I suppose there is one good thing about deep water.
